Abstract

Oil palm as a crop cultivated by the community in Kuantann Hilirr Seberangg District, Kuantann Singingii Regency, is facing the problem of pest attacks. Most of the oil palm trees are attacked by the rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros Linn). The impact of pest attacks causes a drastic decrease in oil palm productivity. Community service activities are carried out using lecture methods and discussions with farmers. The lecture material aims to provide the community with provisions regarding the protection of oil palm plants against beetle pests, especially rhinoceros beetles. The method of discussion is done by transferring knowledge, sharing experience in the field and controlling. The results of the activity showed that the participants already knew the names of the beetle pests that attack oil palm plants. Participants can distinguish the types of beetles that have the potential to become pests and control rhino beetles. will be effective if carried out by every coconut farmer and carried out continuously until the pest population is below the economic threshold.
