Abstract
Language is one of the most important tools for human communication. In expressing ideas and emotions, people do not always use literal meaning. Instead, they often use figurative language to make their expressions more creative, beautiful, and meaningful. Figurative language refers to a form of expression that conveys meaning through non-literal ways.This study aims to analyze the types of figurative language found in the lyrics of three songs from Adele's album 21: “Set Fire to the Rain,” “Rolling in the Deep,” and "Turning Tables." The method used is descriptive qualitative with Miles and Huberman's data analysis technique.The results found 52 instances of figurative language. The most dominant type is metaphor with 30 occurrences. In addition, hyperbole was found 14 times, personification 5 times, and paradox, understatement, and irony 1 time each.It can be concluded that Adele tends to use metaphor and hyperbole to convey emotions such as heartbreak, anger, and self-reflection. The use of figurative language makes the song lyrics more expressive and leaves a deeper impression on the listeners.
