Abstract

Bilingual activities at MTsN 2 Indragiri Hilir. This study used a descriptive quantitative method with a sample of 92 eighth-grade students who were selected using simple random sampling from a population of 367 students. The data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 11 valid statements representing four motivation indicators, namely intrinsic, extrinsic, instrumental, and integrative motivation. The research instrument was found to be reliable, with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.815, while the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through SPSS version 27. The results showed that the students’ average speaking motivation score was 287.09, which was classified as good. Instrumental motivation was the most dominant indicator, showing that the students were motivated to speak English to achieve academic goals and future educational objectives. Thus, bilingual activities were found to be one of the environments that supported the emergence of students’ motivation to speak English. The good level of motivation indicated that the students had a positive level of readiness and willingness to use English in the learning process. Nevertheless, this motivation could still be developed through more interesting and interactive bilingual activities that provided students with more opportunities to speak actively
