Abstract

The implementation of engaging learning media in English classes is an important aspect of enhancing students’ participation and learning experiences. One such medium is English songs. Although the use of English songs in learning English has been widely discussed, studies specifically exploring students’ attitudes toward their use remain limited. This study employed a quantitative method with a survey research design. Simple random sampling was used to select the sample in this study, comprising 95 11th-grade students at SMAN 1 Tembilahan. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics based on students’ responses to the questionnaire statements. The results revealed that the affective indicator was the most prominent component of students’ attitudes toward the use of English songs in learning English, with a percentage of 84.7%, which was categorized as “very positive.” In comparison, the cognitive and conative indicators obtained percentages of 75.5% and 74.5%, respectively, and were both classified as “positive.” The results demonstrated that students had strongly positive perceptions of the implementation of English songs during learning activities. They believed that songs facilitated their understanding of the learning materials and encouraged their motivation and willingness to learn English.
