Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify whether there is a Correlation Between Reading Anxiety and Reading Comprehension of Second Semester Students at English Study Program of Islamic University of Indragiri. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The instruments used in this study are questionnaires to measure the level of reading anxiety and tests to measure students' reading comprehension. The population of this study consists of 19 students. This study uses a total sampling technique, meaning all members of the population are used as samples. Of the 19 students in the population, 18 students were willing to participate as samples. Based on the product moment score using the SPSS Windows program, it shows that the correlation coefficient (r) between reading anxiety and reading comprehension is -0.12 with a significance value (p) of 0.61. This value is compared with the r table at the significance level of 5% (0.49) and 1% (0.62). Because the calculated r value is smaller than the r table value and the significance value is greater than 0.05, H₀, which states that there is no relationship between the two variables, is accepted, and H₁, which states that there is a relationship between the two variables, is rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between reading anxiety and students' reading comprehension in this study.
